The one time I went in to the back of someone is when they braked hard and slid from the lane to my left right into my path. I don't think the radar system would have helped.

His having no insurance or licence wasn't very helpful either and he suddenly claimed he couldn't speak English, despite the fact that he had already asked me for a lift somewhere (my Car was fine, his was a write off) and had told me in pretty fluent English how upset he was that his turban had fallen off when his head hit the windscreen. My sympathetic answer was to tell him that if he had been wearing a seatbelt then his head wouldnt have hit the windscreen to which he replied that the car didn't have any seatbelts.

Anyway, he subsequently found a relative to pretend he was driving the car, and put in a claim for seatbelt induced whiplash for himself and his non existent passenger, and a replacement car.

The whole incicdent was on camera but for some absurd reason my insurance company decided to honour his claim. It didn't cost me anything apart from a bit of hassle while I had a new bumper fitted (which cost more than his entire car) but it was annoying to see him profit from the episode. I called the Police at the time, but they weren't interested in attending.

What that has got to do with booms busts and recoveries, I have no idea...
