ERG, the flip side of that is how much they're saving on admin by paying salaries with stock instead of real money (not to say MSFT stock certificates couldn't replace greenbacks in Moscow). And of course you have the third flip side that if the stock crashes down to earth big time the options are going to become worthless, and ergo MSFT's liability is significantly lessened. And of course when someone cashes in a stock option a significant amount of cash goes to MSFT that isn't reported as income, which can soak up some of the buyback.
