The rich have been getting steadily richer almost throughout the history of this country. As long as there is inflation it has to happen. It is also interesting that the data that conclusion is drawn from, the IRS statistics of income, also shows that the composition of the upper quartile of income earners (this is how all their data is presented - by quartiles) changes significantly from year to year.
