Sonus to build voice service for Interoute Friday November 1, 11:50 am ET
LONDON, Nov 1 (Reuters) - U.S. telecommunications equipment maker Sonus Networks Inc said on Friday it had won a contract with privately held British telecoms carrier Interoute to build a voice service across its European network. ADVERTISEMENT The contract, worth "single-digit millions of euros", covered Interoute's 8,000 kilometres (5,000 miles) of cable in nine major European cities, an Interoute spokeswoman said.
Sonus shares, which hit an 18 cent low a month ago, surged more than 22 percent to 44 cents in late morning New York trade.
The Sonus technology will allow voice traffic to be carried over the data part of Interoute's network, which is a more cost-effective way of connecting voice calls.
Interoute runs a network in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Rome, Zurich and Vienna. It is majority-owned by the Sandoz Family Foundation, set up in memory of the founder of what is now drugs group Novartis (NOVZn.VX). |
