I suspect that todays moderate discount in share prices comes as a result of the weak kneed exiting their positions ahead of an earnings post.

Some people feel it better to purchase going into an earnings announcement, then sell prior to the announcement and hope for a better re-entry price. You avoid some of the volitility this way.

Possible scenarios:

1) If the stock drops because "whisper numbers" where too high, then you buy back in at a lower price. You saw this with MSFT and IBM.
2) If the numbers are bad, then you turn away.
3) If numbers are excessively good, then you miss the boat and hope for a correction before the stock makes the majority of its upward move.

I sincerely doubt if scenario 2 is considerable, and in that case, I would much rather place my bet on 3. Either way, 1 or 3, down the road we get higher prices.

Wayde.
