In California I know a doc who is "going bare", skipping insurance altogether. That's a great idea for docs who want to be docs. Here's what that does:
Any predatory lawyer takes one look at a case against a doc who doesn't have insurance and says, "what?", then says to the client, "sorry, better settle for getting better, instead of getting even".
Having insurance is often an invitation to be sued. And the more insurance, the bigger the invitation. However, in this state, you can't be licensed to handle Medicaid patients without having malpractice insurance, and in a poor state, you have to do Medicaid or you're out of luck... |
