You know...you started down this path, so why is mine a double standard and you ignoring Reps with similar traits, now or earlier in life, is not?
You have NEVER heard me suggest that adultery disqualifies ANYONE from holding elected office. NEVER. That is not my belief, and I've never said it.
I DO, however, believe that lying under oath disqualifies a person (Clinton did it). I DO, however, believe that abuse of power disqualifies a person (Clinton did it). And I DO, however, believe that the rape of Juanita Broaderrick disqualified Clinton (and the evidence that Clinton committed the rape is strong).
If Newt had done any of the above, instead of my belief that he is one of the best political leaders of our time, I'd believe he was a scoundrel. But what Newt did was to get a divorce. What Henry Hyde did was when he was a young man, and it is 30+ years hence, and it did not disqualify him from holding office.
THERE IS NO MORAL EQUIVALANCE BETWEEN WHAT CLINTON DID AND WHAT THESE OTHERS DID. There are certainly Republicans who have behaved as badly as Clinton and they should not be in office, either (and I don't know of any who IS in office).
you ignoring Reps with similar traits
I don't know of any Republicans with similar traits.... |
