London, Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Qualcomm Inc., the holder of patents that are the basis for mobile phones used by 127 million people, is considering using its cash to buy back shares or pay a dividend, an executive said. ``The question is not whether we need cash, but what we intend to do with the cash,'' said Anthony Thornley, Qualcomm's chief operating officer, in an interview on Bloomberg Television. The company had $3 billion at the end of the past quarter and may use some of that to buy back stock or pay a dividend, he said.
