Samsung Electronics: The UMTS, a reality right next to us Samsung,
Madrid, Nov 12, 2002 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Vodafone and Nortel Networks have tested the first 3G UMTS services in Spain. This shows that the introduction of 3G is moving closer to reality across Europe. The cooperation between these three companies allowed visitors to SIMO to directly experience UMTS services including, videotelephony, WAP, video streaming and web browsing through PCs.
Samsung`s 3G UMTS mobile phone, the SGH-Z100, with GPRS Class 10 (4x2), WAP, MMS and Java, was used in the testing programme. It supports applications which could not be utilised previously, such as videotelephony services through mobile phones. Samsung`s 3G UMTS mobile phone has a built-in rotating digital camera and a high-quality TFT colour screen that reproduces 260,000 different colour shades. It also features a 40 polyphonic ring tone.
