SGI Names New Member to its Board of Directors
Anthony R. Muller, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer At JDS Uniphase Corporation, to Chair SGI Audit Committee

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SGI (NYSE: SGI - News) today announced that Anthony R. Muller will join its board of directors in January 2003. Muller, currently the executive vice president and chief financial officer of JDS Uniphase Corporation, will also serve as chairman of SGI's Audit Committee, succeeding C. Richard Kramlich. Kramlich, a general partner and cofounder of the venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates, has served as a director of SGI since 1984 and will retire from the board when his term expires at the 2002 annual meeting. Muller has served as CFO at JDS Uniphase since 1998 and has more than 20 years of experience as a financial executive in the technology industry. From 1984 to 1998, he was a member of the JDS Uniphase board of directors, serving on its Audit Committee. Prior to joining JDS Uniphase management, Muller was senior vice president and CFO for MicroFocus Group Plc, a supplier of software tools, from 1996 to 1998. He held similar positions with Centigram Communications Corporation from 1990 to 1996 and Silicon Valley Group, Inc., from 1985 to 1990.
Muller currently also serves as a director and chairman of the Audit Committee of WebEx Communications. He plans to retire from his current position at JDS Uniphase in the first calendar quarter of 2003, during which he will turn 60.
