i have several friends who flipped gorgeous batches of options and then held on for a lower tax rate. to put it luc-ly, they are f'ed. one managed to flip some more to break even.

another has a personal loan from his employer to the tune of a half-million. ok, not exactly ebbers territory, but for a technical guy who sweated six years in a startup that actually made it, it's a huge blow to go from instant retirement to indentured servitude.
