my isp quarantined an inbound suspected email virus for me yesterday. they notified me about it, and sent me a link to the site where i could log in and view the offending piece of mail (without danger of infecting my computer).

the virus was in the form of an electronic greeting card. i telephoned the fellow who supposedly sent it. "hey jeff, did you email me a greeting card today?", i asked. "nope", he said. "okay, then your computer has a virus." SAY WHAT?

nice to have that first line of defense in place. norton antivirus and zonealarm can sit back and wait for the really tough ones that might make it through the isp's gates.

i should note that when i asked jeff about what antivirus software he was running, he said that a co-worker had installed norton av for him about a month ago.

"have you been keeping the virus definitions updated?", i asked.

"keeping the who what"?, he replied.

:)
