Remember when we helped Afghanistan purge Russian troops. The US got no credit for that.

I think there is little doubt that Afghanistan knows today who is responsible for eliminating the Taliban, however. I don't think this means they'll worship the USA forever, but they were appreciative and showed it at the time. In Afghanistan, it is a little much to expect that these people, who STILL have nothing in their lives, should rejoice because ONE of their problems is elimniated by USA. Iraq is a different situation; the Iraqi people will thrive once Saddam is gone...

Ultimately, it is not their appreciation we're after, however. I'm a lot more interested in the benefits to the rest of the world.
