Duke - meant to say 2000 in my last post, how time flies... A former direct report of Shane's at CPQ characterized him as smart and ambitious, not a detail guy but very savvy politically. My source, who is a world class technical person, was unimpressed with Shane's vision or technical expertise and characterized his decision-making process as "figuring out which way the wind was blowing and setting his sail". He said Shane was responsible for pretty much eliminating Compaq's labs and R&D prior to the merger. I'll try and get a little more feedback on the CTO.
