Clearly, now is the time to take steps to avert a crisis. But it is all aboveboard, which is why I scratch my head at MSI's ranting.......

It may be too late. If you 100 years, the effect of compounding investment works in your favor. But when you get down to 30-40 years left, it is going to be tough to deal with.

The problem with SS is that people just don't understand it. As a CPA, I discussed the problems with SS with my clients as far back as 1980 -- it was crystal clear at that time that the program was in trouble. However, MOST people are under the mistaken impression that the problem is that the federal government has "borrowed" the money that was supposed to be used for benefits. The truth is, of course, that insufficient money was collected in the first place for the level of payout that is required by law.

Social Security is a liberal social program gone awry. Nothing more, nothing less. It may well bring the United States to its knees before all is said and done. This is one reason liberalism doesn't work.

If SS doesn't get us, there is another liberal social program (Medicare) in line, waiting to take us down. The only real solution is to take the vote away from liberals. If you have any ideas on that, please let me know <g>....
