Since the Bush administration is using the (regressive) Social Security tax surpluses to finance tax cuts in the (progressive) income and estate taxes, i'd say the comments are hardly inane.

And to complete the transfer, Bush's commission on SS reform has stated that SS is trouble as soon as 2006 when receipts will be less than outlays.

That means all those billions of dollars in surpluses ran by SS since the 80's, invested in Treasury funds, is now being appropriated by the Bush administration to help pay for tax cuts in the upper brackets of our more progressive taxes.

Inane?
