I'm not so sure selling western products is the same thing as winning hearts and minds. Eating McDonalds and buying modern electrical and communications gear doesn't mean one buys into western ideas like equality of the sexes, cultural freedom, religious tolerance, equality under the law, free speech, free markets, democracy, and secular rationalism. How do we sell those things? I don't think they put them in the bag with the Big Macs. In a funny way I think they do put them in the bag with the Big Macs, just a little sprinkle at a time. What they see of us in movies, taste of us at Mickey D's and KFC, is attractive to them. Those who want to move, where do they want to go to? They love us and hate us. The Islamists reject us violently and call us the Great Satan. Satan is a great tempter, don't forget.
