Most companies, small businesses, and organized individuals plan in advance and order supplies (like printer cartridges) so they have them on hand.

DELL's virtual integration business model has allowed it to expand into new higher margin markets (eg. servers and storage). DELL is they only one of its peer companies that is taking lots of market share -- and doing it profitably...I wouldn't bet against Michael Dell...;-)
