DELL could easily do to the network switch market what they did to the PC market. Price points for various components in that business have dropped a lot but the vendors selling into that space still make the stuff too hard to configure and use and charge a premium for making the pieces work together.

I would also expect DELL to leverage their cost advantage in volume servers by dressing those up as "appliances" to do specialized jobs. They almost did that 2 years ago but backed away because the market didn't quite fit "the model".
