OTOTOT:So Jeff is hunting, he should come to Maine the land of the new breed monster Coyote. Your living in Conn.(that is one those states where i just use the abbreviation--Mississippi i can handle--i will try Conneticutt<no!> ah Connecticutt/Connecticut--hmm? i give up:). But anyway Pete i am doing a survey, how many know of the what is now called the Eastern Coyote, that turned up mysteriously in Maine in the 1900s(after the last wolf reported was in 1895,or so) , its first rumored sighting was about 1919,the first specimen retrieved was in 1935 weighing in at over 50pounds. Now population estimated at 150,000 and growing no matter that they are all season fair game.(They have the Coyote howl and it is commonly heard where i live, they hang out along the Benjamin) They have weighed as high as 65pounds(that's a record). They are substantially bigger and tougher than the western Coyote and hunt like Wolves and not Western Coyotes. Biologist still are arguing where they came from, and what they actually are. They 1), definitely are Coyote, but argument still rages is their other blood dog or wolf. But it is pretty well conceded they are a new breed. Has knowledge of this critter reached Conn.??:) max p.s. the new controversy is The Cougar, the state says no; but others are sure they have seen Cougar. o yes they are cutting into the deer population. Not only do they hunt deer in strategiccally moving packs, but a single Eastern coyote can bring a deer down by itself. |
