John:
There has been a lot of speculation on various threads as to whose tablet PC is being produced by Wistron that will be carrying the Saphion Battery. Many have speculated that it is IBM. This is certainly incorrect since IBM will not be putting out a Tablet PC at this time. (see:http://www.infoworld.com/articles/hn/xml/01/11/12/011112hnibmtablet.xml ). If it is indeed the Xplore iX104 that I mentioned before ( xploretech.com ) then I do not expect volume to be very high and thus no real revenue from this announcement. However it is a start and as the demand for Tablet PC's grow, once Microsoft comes out with their OS, I think the market for Saphion will grow as well. While all the recent news has been good, it is really important that something tangible comes out soon regarding an OEM contract with a Tier 1 company since that is where the volume, and hence the revenue, will come from.

And on another front, concerning the cutbacks from Henderson, didn't Barker and his research team operate out of some facility in Seattle? I seem to recall several years back that his contract specified Seattle. M_e is correct that R&D is never complete. I cannot imagine that the reductions at Henderson means that Valence is not pushing their research as fast as they can. Rather I suspect that the redundant equipment is needed for the start-up in China so as to proceed there as quickly as possible. In todays market the bottom line is what counts for stock price and it is a positive sign to see the new management team aggressively working in this area.
