Yes, they are backing away from doing any further development within the format of their J/V. But that is actually the way most non-Elan joint drug development programs are managed and financed. (Someone pays someone else to do the job and if the development is successful the two parties share the spoils according to some pre-defined formula).

But it doesn't say anywhere, that they are backing away from the development of the drug. If you compare this release with those where they (or rather their partner) say Elan has decided not to support any further development, you will notice the differences.

At least I think I do.
