I was never in combat and never overseas, I spent most of my time at 29 Palms in California about 100 miles east of Palm Springs. My MOS was 2811, which was in communications.

Food was good. We had an American chow hall with burgers and fries. Italian chow hall with spaghetti and lasagna. Hispanic food chow hall with the full Mexican buffet. There was also a Steak house chow hall that was pretty good.

Of course it was all you can eat, 3 times a day. I can't believe how much I ate back then, but I was doing a lot of 3-mile runs. I eat twice a day now and am still about 20 pounds over my fighting weight back then.(1977-83)

As I said I am not a combat Vet. JDN on this thread is a Vietnam Marine. God Bless Him. I did go on many training exercises however. Back then we had C-Rats same as you and I've never had MRE's. I did learn the different flavors though and always tried to get a meal with canned peaches.<g>

God Bless GZ and Thanks,
Josh
