Sam Donaldson: 'Spectacular' Terror Warning for Real

The White House is downplaying Thursday's FBI terror alert that al Qaeda is preparing to launch a "spectacular" attack that will inflict "mass casualties" on the U.S.

But veteran ABC News correspondent Sam Donaldson isn't buying the revised story.

"I talked to someone last night," Donaldson told WABC Radio in New York Saturday morning. "And he knows what the government thinks it knows."

"He said, 'You better take this seriously,'" reported the former "This Week" host.

"We are hearing not just chatter.... We're getting some specific indications that, looking back on 9/11, we now know were there as clues" that an attack was coming, Donaldson said his source warned.

U.S. intelligence has picked up the same kind signals that went unheeded in Sept. 2001 - "and we're getting them very strongly now," the reporter added.

On Friday National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice told reporters at the White House that the FBI's warnings the day before "really are a summary of intelligence, not a new warning. This is a summary of intelligence as we know it."
