EUREKA - it worked, sorry, i should have done what it said without posting here to the experts. removing the two offending lines in sysedit solved the problem. i have a call from the techie at okidata to help me install it now. okidatas are notorious for having to be removed or uninstalled before reinstalling. duh. larry
