Interesting points you make about the semiconductor industry. I've followed it quite closely and there is no doubt that it is a very cyclical industry but I don't agree with you that its better days are over quite yet. There are still many uses for chips on the horizon. For example, is there any doubt that at some point, all children are going to have some device that locates them 24 hours a day. The medical profession still has a vast amount of uses for chips that have not been developed yet and most homes have virtually no chips in them to control lighting, appliances, security, etc.

There is a man whose name is Ray Kurzweil who is a technology genius - has developed many products most importantly in the computer/speech area. He has published an article, which I'll link below, that predicts where we'll be in 20-40 years from now using the exponential gains in computing power and in other areas. It's very interesting and to give you a hint, he argues that humans will merge with machines in my childrens lifetime. Maybe even in mine if I can live another 30-40 years.
