The fascist idiots like Ollie North are supported by the largest PR team on the planet, paid for by you and me. This administration, even more than prior ones, is obsessed with secrecy to a suspicious extent. One simple example -- they have broken precendent and the law by declaring secret that last 20 years' presidential papers, which includes Clinton and goes back to deeds done under Reagan.
The obvious presumption is that there are shenanigans commited by those who were in the Reagan admininstration who are now in power again today.
The public is being beaten like a screen door in a hurricane with hourly disinformation, and FOIA violations to deceive and prevent disclosure of what remaining information that hasn't already been purged and shredded.
The so-called "information" out there in the billions of words is carefully sifted to be useless or deceptive. The only way a truth can be brought out other than by the occasional accidental disclosure, is by direct access to already-electronic formatted data, which costs the departments nothing, and for which there are non-profit agencies chomping a the bit to make public.
Some examples of the stonewalling and deception by our DOD, as expected, but even worse than most have imagined

But this one is the wave of Democracy's future: ewg.org
The FARM SUBSIDY DATABASE, which shows any farm anywhere that is on the government dole. This is the kind of simple, fantastically-direct democracy that costs government nothing, but allows a direct eye into exactly where huge quantities of cash, your and mine, are going. You can type in your location, neighborhood, or individual farmer, and viola, you see their dole amount.
Exactly the same can be done with every department, and believe me, there will be consequences. Which, of course, is exactly why 95% of all government bureaucrats and corp. welfare recipients will fight tooth-and-nail against it.
It's the way to rescue democracy from the oligopoly now in charge of all three branches and the media.
BTW, here's the other side of the issue, the whining of those exposed by making public corp. welfare payments available ("Waaaaa! We want our welfare to be private!")... The parasites have to learn that it isn't their money, it's ours, and we need to know exactly who, when, where, how much, and why, in realtime, not 20 years from now. Every politician who doesn't vigorously advocate this should be fired, recalled, impeached, or otherwise replaced. (IMO, of course...)
