If this reflects prior bear rallies..using the Jan 2001 rally we get 1418 (close), if we take the Apr-May 2001 and Fall 2001 rallies, and Spring/Summer 2000 rallies, we get anywhere from 1550-1650. (using COMP; all values approximate using percentage moves)

So the impression of a bull within an overall bear..just enough to get folks all excited about a new bull..just getting to some major breakout and then 'magically' it stops.

That said, I think 1460 and 1490 are possibilities.

The Jan 2002 high was around the 200 d ema (currently around 1480-90).
