Do you think LT would still have felt kindly toward Theisman?
No, but that didn't happen. The reason that didn't happen was that LT, AT THE TIME OF THE HIT, was clearly distressed over what had happened and his part in it. The cameras were alternating between replays of the hit and shots of the look of horror on LT's face. That very sincere and humane IMMEDIATE reaction on his part probably obviated the kind of reaction you describe. Had he behaved as a cad, it may have played out that way, but he didn't, so it didn't.
It was this response that brought X, for example, into the fray.
I understand that quite well. Chris, there were a number of points in this drama where peace could have been salvaged. One of those was the time of the hit, long before there were any reactions to provoke X, long before there were all those reactions towards you that provoked you. Some human concern for the party who was in distress could have turned the tide before things got out of hand. Some human concern for that party at any point in the process could have made the difference. Even now it might make a difference. I understand that as the drama grew, it became harder for you to "feel kindly toward Theisman." But his leg was still fractured by a devastating hit and that was an awful, awful thing to have happened. It was awful independent of context. |
