DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

WASHINGTON -- Eight Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) insiders, including Chief Executive Irwin Jacobs, sold a total of 955,700 shares of the company's common stock Thursday, according to Form 4's filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Of the 755,700 shares, 175,000 were option-related sales.

President and Chief Operating Officer Anthony S. Thornley was the biggest seller, disposing of 300,000 shares for prices from $35.87 to $37.89 a share. Jacobs was next, selling 200,000 shares for prices from $35.76 to $38.10 a share.

Shares of Qualcomm recently traded at $39.34, down 10 cents.

Earlier this month, Jacobs said he planned to sell up to 2 million company shares in the near future for asset diversification, estate planning and to facilitate charitable giving. Jacobs has now sold about 1.4 million shares since last Monday.

As reported, Qualcomm insiders sold over 3 million shares between last Monday and Wednesday.

Qualcomm, which provides digital wireless communication systems and Internet products, has about 771.1 million shares outstanding.
