I have long viewed China as, in the long term, our most formidable potential adversary for world leadership. Even during the cold war I was discounting Russia's dangers and talking of China's. If they are indeed able to improve their economic situation and develop even a significant fraction of the economic productivity of Japan or South Korea, they will indeed be a force to be reckoned with.
