Americans and Canadians offer the world some fundamental differences in pursuit of the same national ideals. Canada has legislation against free speech, an insofar clause that Americans would never tolerate. Canada has actively pursued a cultural tapestry through endowments, legislation and strong Provincial governments. A strong Federal government has control of central initiatives such as health care, bilingualism and aboriginal affairs. Provinces are similar to States and Canadians are similar to Americans, it is the differences that matter. The softwood lumber dispute has had very little impact in Alberta, in Alberta the only thing that really matters is the Kyoto Accord. It appears that it is something that both Mr. Chretien and Mr. Martin support, Mr. Klein may continue to feel ignored in his protests.

Prime Ministers, Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Premiers, Governors and Presidents would all do well to heed the voice of experience, the greatest threat facing us all is terrorism, spawned by fundamentalism.
