Beating estimates ain't what it used to be. Estimates for high-growth companies are low-balled with a wink and a nod, and 'whisper' estimates are what the street analysts really look for. Back when things were a little more disciplined, companies could get rapped for exceeding estimates by a substantial amount, on the grounds that management must be totally clueless if they couldn't get a reasonable estimate on profits.
