Thanks Larry. I do have a good understanding of the technologies and trends inthe VM and CT business. One thing that should be learned from the Octel thread, however, is that I still have a lot to learn on the investing side of things. I still think their technology is in trouble over the long haul, but Octel at 15 was a steal either way.
As far as Dialogic, has more than just a place in CT, they have the leadership, and the most exciting line of products of all the major players. I can't wait to get my hands on Dm3 quad T1 boards. WHat I like most about DLGC, is that they have been pushing for open standards. Few companies have the fortitude to let go of proprietary locks and go open. DLGC in pushing SC-Bus and S100 has shown real leadership. I am currently an architect on a 1.0 CT product. Our product will support Dialogic, NMS,BRKT, and Rhetorex boards. But our best performance will be on DLGC. And most of our development machines are Dialogic. THey just have the best product!!!
The one thing that Dialogic is missing is expertise in Intelligent Networking (i.e. SS7). The SS7 backbone of the PSTN is a goldmine of applications and business opportunities, that I believe have only begun to be exploited (pre-paid calling, 800 services, CC-calls, etc). Bill gates is already trying to position NT as the next OS for the SCP's (NT 5.0 with SQL Server). He understands the importance of this market. If I were Dialogic, I would buy one of the SS7 experts (INet, DataKinetics, Trillium, etc.), and position DLGC as the CT provider for SS7 intelligent networks. Not to mention that the margins in SS7 SW technology are huge. |
