Yeah, I'm still cautious when I see many product introductions from other companies like the one below but Lightpath talks about another venture to do some more R&D. Don't get me wrong, I think Lightpath has great potential or I wouldn't have started the thread. I'm just getting anxious I guess. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Applied Fiber Optics Introduces Pump WDM For Fiber Amplifiers
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1997--Applied Fiber Optics Inc. (AFO) Wednesday announced the introduction of a pump wavelength division multiplexer for fiber amplifiers. It provides 2, 3 or 4 channels in the 980 nm window.
``The escalation of bandwidth demand means serious network capacity problems for major interexchange carriers. AFO's pump WDM is a major development in the expansion of data transmission capacity, because it increases pump power by more than two times,'' explained Dr. Peter Chen, vice president and chief technical officer.
The WDM module is based on the company's proprietary fused, cascaded fiber (FCF) technology. AFO has applied for a patent on the design, which retains all light within the fiber.
The product's beginning wavelength is user selected with channel spacing at 3.2 nm. The product is available now.
AFO designs, develops and manufactures fiber optic couplers and FCF-DWDM components. The company sells these components into a variety of applications including high speed telecommunications, CATV, local area networks and optical fiber amplifiers.
Manufacturing, management, marketing and sales are handled at the company's headquarters, located at 46758 Lakeview Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538. The company can be contacted by phone at 510/440-9608 or toll free 888/335-0338; and by fax at 510/440-9668. |
