BLACK HAWK MINING INC. (TSX-BHK)(“Black Hawk” or the “Company”) previously announced that the union leaders and some employees at the Limon Gold Mine in Nicaragua had taken an illegal strike action. Despite the Ministry of Labour’s declaration that the strike is illegal and its order to return to work, union leaders and a majority of the employees persisted with the illegal action. These illegal activities resulted in the dismissal of those employees who did not return to work and steps were taken to decertify the union, all in accordance with Nicaragua law. Illegal picketing continued and the remaining employees and contractors were unable to access the mine site from November 11 to 19, 2002.
On November 17, 2002 representatives of the Nicaraguan government requested that representatives of the Company and the dismissed employees meet with the Vice-Minister of Labour to discuss the situation. The Company agreed to participate in the discussions provided that the picket lines be removed and unrestricted access to the property be established allowing contractors and employees, who had not been dismissed, to return to work. On November 19, 2002, the picket lines were removed, the employees eligible to return to work have done so and operations are gradually returning to normal.

The Company has hired twenty new employees who are presently being trained and site management is assessing the re-hiring of some of the dismissed employees in order to return the operation to its full production levels as soon as possible.

BLACK HAWK MINING INC. is an international mining and exploration company that operates the Limon Mine in Nicaragua and holds prospective gold/silver exploration properties in Nicaragua and Canada. Black Hawk is listed on The Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol BHK.
