that no longer surprises me. for quite a long time private healthcare in the US was demonstrably better than public healthcare in Canada - i am canadian by citizenship, have lived on and off - mostly on - in the US for nearly two decades. in the past few years that has started to change. what is happening now is the psuedo-socialization of healthcare and quality, in my experience, is deteriorating. whether your soul is owned by a/the federal government or by an extraordinarily huge and rigid "private company" - ie HMO - makes little difference, both are for all practical purposes socialized healthcare and the two people most responsible for primary care - the patient and the doctor - are exactly the people with the least input into the process. since the trend is towards fewer providers, not more, the problem will worsen going forward. i also happen to live in a neighborhood that provides me some of the finest healthcare available anywhere on the planet, if i'm seeing deterioration i can only imagine what it is getting to be like for people living in less "fortunate" environments.
