I trapped marten for five or six winters when I was a young sprout. Up along the Idaho Montana divide, about fifteen miles east of Lolo Pass. Lewis and Clark went through Lolo Pass, as did Chief Joseph of the Nez Perces and General Howard who was chasing him.

I never trapped beaver. It's an entirely different skill than trapping marten.

It's difficult to get rid of beavers because they are attracted to good places for a dam, like the creek behind the swim club. If you trap them out, a new colony will move in from somewhere upstream.
