The Turks are close to the West. They allow their territory to be used by US and British forces enforcing the Northern no-fly zone which Saddam believes is an illegal intrusion on his soverignty and which he bitterly resents. And Turkey is openly accepting that if there is an invasion of Iraw, Turkey will provide bases for US and and allied troops to operate out of.

Turkey is allied with Saddam's mortal enemy, the US. And Saddam has clearly shown over many years how he deals with mortal enemies, and with their friends.

It is frankly beyond my comprehension to believe that Turkey wouldn't be concerned about him having nuclear weapons.

And it's true that Saddam hasn't engaged in any open and overt hostilities in the past decade. Which demonstrates that the no-fly-zone policy is working.

I do not see the Europeans
running around scared looking for shelter, either.

And desite France's shortsightedness (have they forgotten 1939 already?) NATO has just issued a statement that "NATO
allies stand united in their commitment to take effective action to assist and
support the efforts of the U.N. to ensure full and immediate compliance by
Iraq, without conditions or restrictions, with U.N. Security Council
Restolution 1441."
