Yeah, Neocon, but you should read the facts behind his tenure at Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS). He flunked out after less than a year. He recieved an honorary doctorate from CTS some 30 years later, when his son, Jesse JR. became a member of the CTS board. As to his ordination, it was all political, given without his having acquired any of he commonly required credentials at all. He is a fraud, pure and simple. And Sharpton is likewise. Even with their "ordinations" neither of them function in a closely bound manner to religion. They aren't even ministers of churches and never have been.
When they act, they do not act as ministers of churches, they instead act as leaders of their various civil rights organizations. It therefore is inappropriate to compare them to islamics who kill in the name of their religion.
And it is inappropriate to require serious christian clerics to respond to them when Jackson and Sharpton are not truly defining christianity. We do not require the pope to give an answer for a catholic madman who killed for non-catholic reasons. We would require the pope, or some catholic authority to vigourously define the catholic religion, condemning the madman's actions as anathema to the catholic faith, should the madman slaughter innocent people after maintaining a credible assertion that slaughtering is a requirment of catholicism.
That sort of definition is not taking place in any significant way amongst islamic clerics. |
