It's not a target so much as a feeling.

If I remember correctly, the post-911 rally had three
things going for it:

1. Extreme compression caused by the terrorist attacks,
which sped up the cratering which had already started;

2. The erroneous belief that the recession was
ending/being avoided all together;

3. The patriotism factor.

In contrast, as I look at it, that there was no
reason for this rally to begin in the first place and
no reason for it continue this far, so why can't it
just consolidate a bit and keep on going, for the same non-
reason?

All along we thought that it would die "as soon as," i.e.,

-- as soon as the PPT stops pushing;
-- as soon as the elections are over;
-- as soon as we hit the Thanksgiving break.

I have a new formulation I've come up with. This rally
will die as soon as it can't go up any more, as soon as
there is nothing da boyz can do to squeeze another nickle
out of JQPublic, as soon as they are absolutely sure that
they cannot possibly meet their goals of jacking up the
indices to their predetermined targets -- whatever they
are.

JMDO,
