I would sell 1/4 of my position to recoup ALL of my cost, plus enough for the tax, and a little left over for a new toy (...and as a Long Term gain, its at the lower tax rate) The remaining 3/4's I would hold as a long term core position.

Huh? The 'tax man' won't take your 'paper' profits away, only Mr. Market can do that!

Why? you already have a long term gain? If the decision has already been made to sell, you are now exposed to market risk. If your going to hold for another 5 months, why sell at all? July is a little early to consider deferring tax.

Unless you've sold or are selling your other stocks, I don't see your point.
