I had this very thing in mind when I made my comments. Our modem traffic is scrutinized, our purchases, our bank accounts, our travel, the books we check out of the library, etc. This level of scrutiny is not going to be conducive to maintaining a free society.

"I don't think once you put something like this in place, you can ever create enough checks and
balances and oversight," Pena said.

And it is hard to put the genii back in the bottle. Once you get this kind of power in the hands of the government, they aren't going to want to give it back to the people.
