All we have to do is say, "We owe you a trillion dollars? Ha-ha, just kidding, that wasn't real money, let's start over."

I had a grandfather who played poker like that.He and his friends just kept a running record of imaginary wins and losses. One time an out-of-town visitor got into the game and no one thought to tell him it was just for fun. He lost a bundle. At the end he asked tentatively if they would take a check. Everyone ended up happy because he hadn't really lost any money, because if he had been a big winner something bad might have happened.

But when the rest of the world finds out we can't really pay, I wonder what happens.
