" must tell you this one more time, we do NOT rely on words in 3d. 70% (perhaps more) of communication is nonverbal. So we do NOT rely on words in 3d.

I think everyone here knows that X. There is a lot more too it. Lots more. In 3D lots of the non-verbal communication is to hide things that we don't want others to know about us. All of the things that are done to impress the right people in just the right way, on the job, for example.

On the telephone we rely on tone of voice and pause time and such to communicate more than what the words are saying.

In a love letter we try very hard to communicate how we feel about someone using words alone. Some times it is the only effective way since our non-verbal stuff would get in the way of communicating effectively. Like wise sending flowers without any words communicates something in particular.

When people choose to form a group and mingle they don't communicate everything about themselves they communicate what they bring to that particular group.

Likewise when we come to SI and take time to carefully compose messages and present ourselves in a style we feel comfortable with, we mingle that into a group experience and it communicates a great deal.

When people who post regularly behave in a disingenuos manner it is easily detectable by the other posters. Its very transparent and we all recognize it.

"There are many different "channels" of nonverbal communication: facial expressions, the clues in our voices ("vocal paralanguage"), hand gestures, body movements ("kinesics"), touch ("haptics"), and personal space."

Again I think everybody here knows this and knew it before posting on SI. It seems that everybody recognizes that the written word has limitations, while also presenting opportunities. I have never met Thomas Jefferson in 3D...I still love the guy.

You have harped on this a lot. Every one gets the differences in how communication works in different settings and forums. Could you try to come to the point...if there is one.

"I can't believe no one bu CH gets that. And I'm not even sure he gets it (since he could just say he gets it because it works for him)."

CH got busted and you were the only one who would talk to him. Did you notice that was when he suddenly got it? Even if he didn't really. He is happy to shake his head any way you want him to.

"This simply amazes me, since most of the people here are educated, or went through some sort of higher education system.",

Good thought. Most people here are highly educated. Give them credit for understanding how communication 101 works. And then ask yourself why you are trying to convince them that their rational coherent thoughts that are carried consistantly accross SI communications do not represent them as a real entity, a human entity, with character, emotions and life?
