"Clearly Intel is desperate to deny AMD enough resources to launch the hammers - even if it means doing permanent damage to key Intel profit centers. It may be Intel's only hope to avoid becoming a commodity supplier of low end chips while AMD reaps the profits from most high end PC and workstation/server sales, so maybe it's Intel's best bet. "

Indeed, and it appears to be working. From what I have seen of Intel's plans, driving AMD out of business (Chapter 7 is ideal, Chapter 11 acceptable) is the goal.

The cool thing is that AMD started the price war with Jerry's promise that AMD would always undercut Intel's prices by 25%.

Since AMD is not the lowest cost producers, despite Jerry's hot air, the outcome is preordained.
