You really are persistent in your bullheadedness, Tiger. The Second Amendment is like the canary in the mine. When it dies, you better clear out.
The armed citizen can protect himself against intruders and defend others whose lives are threatened by criminals and terrorists. The NRA publishes a full page of such instances in every issue and has ever since I was old enough to read it. The armed citizen has no need to take up arms against the government, because the government can be trusted as long as we have the Second Amendment. If we relax our vigilance and allow you and your cohorts to decimate the Second Amendment, then the First Amendment is at risk -- for that matter, the whole dang shooting match.
If people like you can't stand to take responsibility for your own personal defense, why do you have to interfere with those of us who are able and willing to? Why can't you just live and let live; go on about your business and leave ours alone? Why? You don't have an answer do you? Because you have this utopian idea and you think everyone should have it.
Go see Demolition Man. It should be on the cheap rack at the video store by now. It could happen, pray God not! Society is so politically correct in that scenario that computers dock your credit card every time you say a cuss word. Firearms exist only as museum relics. People don't waste trees on toilet paper; they use shells to scrape it off. People have wealth, health, everything except FREEDOM! Except there are people who live in the sewers and eat ratburgers rather than follow the politically correct mantra.
If you want to go way back, try Red Dawn. Although the premise of that movie is a bit absurd under George Bush, it's not at all unthinkable under the likes of Al Gore and Bill Clinton. I'll never forget the line in which the invading Colonel orders his men to check all the sporting goods stores and look up the names of gun owners on Form ____ (whatever). Shortly thereafter, that entire list of citizens finds themselves behind a chain link fence. All except, it turns out, a small band of patriots called the Wolverines.
