Well, OK, a yellow cedar stump will persist a long time and those over 100 years old will be traceable. Hemlock and spruce stumps will become large woody organic debris within a few years and in 100 years will be mostly dust.

Why does a 100 year-old stump offend you so? Can't you stand the idea that somebody might have built a house out of that tree?
