ParthusCeva And ARM Release New Environment For SOC Developers
SAN JOSE, CALIF. AND CAMBRIDGE, UK - Nov. 25, 2002 - ParthusCeva Inc. [(Nasdaq; PCVA); (LSE: PCV)], a world leader in the development and licensing of Digital Signal Processor (DSP) cores, and ARM, [(LSE: ARM); (Nasdaq: ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions, today announced a new development environment that combines ParthusCeva's SmartCores(TM) family of DSP cores and the ARM® CPU cores development systems. This development environment for system-on-chip (SoC) designs significantly eases and accelerates the integration of ParthusCeva's DSP cores and the ARM CPU cores.
The new combined development environment offers a complete suite of tools including the ARM Integrator(TM) board, ParthusCeva's Core Module Board and a complete set of software tools centered around the ARM RealView(TM) Debugger solution. The combined hardware and the respective individualized software components come fully integrated and can be subsequently tested. This debugging environment enables concurrent software development and expensive chip manufacturing that traditionally are required prior to verification and eventual ASIC production.
"This combined development is an important step towards a comprehensive solution that enables hybrid RISC/DSP solutions to be emulated, debugged and optimized for more robust performance," said Gordon Stubberfield, marketing manager for RealView solutions, ARM. "We will be working with ParthusCeva to deliver validated solutions to our mutual customers."
"This new combined solution brings to the fore, the best that these wo silicon IP market leaders offer," said Batsheva Ovadia, ParthusCeva's chief scientist. "Both companies' broad range of licensees can now take full advantage of a highly integrated development environment to rapidly develop and manufacture products."
ParthusCeva's Cores and Platforms Division vice president of engineering, Erez Bar-Niv commented, "Developing an SoC with two architecturally diverse cores is a tremendously complex assignment. Our joint solution offers one of the first real-time, full-frequency multi-core environments capable of supporting simultaneous software and hardware development and verification that already incorporates all of the characteristics of the final system."
The development solution can be populated with various generations of ARM processors, including the ARM7(TM) core family and the ARM9(TM) core family alongside all members of ParthusCeva's SmartCores(TM) amily including the PalmDSPCore®, Teak® and TeakLite® DSP Cores and the most recent addition, the XpertTeak(TM) sub-system.
The new development solution can be used for joint application development, as well as multi-core debugging and it already supports future ARM development extensions. These include multi-core cross triggering, to be used in multi-processor configurations and multi-DSP environments.
The platform is fully-compliant with the Advanced High-Performance Bus (AHB), now the heart of the AMBA® methodology, including burst mode and efficient data transfer. The system incorporates AHB bus master and slave configurations, enabling flexible software architecture where either the DSP or ARM processor can control the data transfer. Peripheral boards can be mounted on the platform to handle additional functions such as video, audio, memory expansions or user hardware accelerators. The new platform can also be utilized independently of the ARM development environment for DSP application development.
About the ARM RealView Development Solution
RealView tools provide designers with the best solution for creating and analyzing systems based on ARM technology. They are designed and used by the same engineers who create the ARM architecture. ARM tools are exposed to the highest level of pre- and post-silicon evaluation and development. As a result, the ARM RealView development solution provides the broadest possible range of support for future ARM architectures and derivatives. ARM RealView tools are fully integrated and provide a complete solution to any design or SoC integration challenge, giving the developer higher confidence in first silicon and a faster time-to-market...
