I am not so much maintaining that it is a tactical shift, insofar as it may linger indefinitely, I am arguing that the prism through which policy is interpreted largely remains Communist, though diluted. Now, it is possible that there will eventually be a political opening occasioned by the development of a non- Party affluent sector, demanding more participation. If the trend towards marketization goes to far, there probably will be. I was mainly arguing about whether Soviet economic collapse were necessary, or if the political system were sustainable on the Chinese model.....
